Chicks Have Arrived #Chickens

I picked up 17 chicks this morning which came via the post office. The post office called at 6:30am with "your chicks have arrived" I got the biggest smile on my face!    I ordered 17 with the thought that a few might not make it. So far I did lose two, all 15 are eating, drinking, pecking and running around in the brooder. I tried taking photos but the infra red light sort of messes that up.

I know my finger nails look like crap, been in the garden the last few days and am headed back out :-) This is just so exciting for me, I have dreamed and planned on getting chickens for the last four years. We lived in a residential neighborhood that did not allow a small flock let alone 15 chickens.

The city something or other dude lived down the block and was a nosy neighbor, he would rat me out so I did not even try. That was one of the big reasons for the move, live sustainably, raise livestock and live off the land so to speak. I don't want to go all Laura Ingals Wilder on you but hey.. :-)  I go down stairs like every fifteen minutes and talk sort of loud, "hey all you beautiful babies, they wake out of there slumber, I just want to make sure they are doing fine!
