Getting rid of Junk

It happens to all of us, especially if you live in a house with a three car garage that is a perfect place to accumulate stuff. We just moved in September out of our home that we lived in for over 12 years. The kids went through Junior High went off to graduate and headed to college. With that said life has a funny way of getting away from you. When it was time to move we had a lot of Junk as I called it to get rid of. I mean you cannot just put it at the end of the drive way and the garbage man is going to pick it up. I even tried putting it out there with the "Free" sign on it. You have seen them, yes? You almost cringe when you see a mattress that says "free".

My sister who used Shenandoah Junk removal reminded me about 1 800 gotjunk a company that could easily come to my home with professionals and pick up some of the things that have accumulated over the years. I got to work and had a few old appliances, to many printers to count, old tires and a mattress to get picked up and hauled away. I must get a new printer every other year. Technology has me constantly upgrading!

  2. I use the VVA to pick up our old stuff - I am paranoid about being a packrat (everyone in my family is) so I am always giving stuff away. LOL

  3. My husband is constantly trying to get me to throw away stuff. I have a tendency to hang on to things.

  6. i know its like once you buy a product it's already obsolete in just 1 month. They are always making bigger and better or lately smaller is better lol

  8. Our City does a curbside garbage pickup every other year. For the few days before the garbage truck comes - everyone sets out their stuff on the street corner. Then Scrappers and other people drive around town looking for great free items! It was a bit creepy with the metal scrappers, but I put out everything I was holding onto for a garage sale - because I don't really have time for a sale. It was good to get rid of stuff!

  9. I feel like I could totally be a hoarder someday, but for old issues of Martha Stewart Living and fabric. It's hard to get rid of stuff! But I'll know who to call when that day comes. ;)

  13. We usually pack stuff up a few times a year and either throw it away or drive down to the local thrift store and gift it away if it's sellable.

  14. Hoarding is such a bad habit for me, good to know that I'm not alone!!
Garage sales are appealing, though I've never held one simply because you just sit there waiting for people to make faces at your stuff!
I donate all of my things. My rule is:
"If I haven't needed it in the past 12 months, I'll never need it, or I'll buy it when I do need it"
My only problem now is the dust...

  15. I'm always making my kids get rid of things! If they get a new toy they get rid of a old one! It works really well.

  16. A great option is Freecycle.org. The idea is to give away your unwanted items instead of throwing them away. You'd be surprised how much one person's junk truly is another person's treasure. You can also fulfill a need for someone who can't afford certain items in this economy.

  17. I take most of my stuff up to Goodwill. I also use Freecycle.
