Wood Floors for my home

I have been posting a lot about the new farm house we moved into, new to us that is. The kitchen appliances are not to bad, I am hoping next year to pick up a new stove and re do the counters. Right now they are pretty much an 80's look. The cupboards are wood which can be refinished easily. What I fell in love with while looking at the home was the wood flooring I have never had that as an adult, only carpeting. I now have zero carpeting leading into the basement on the stairs which I love! I can now sweep the dog hair away.

We have wood flooring in the living room and family room. The hallway and three bedrooms have carpet. So I have began a search on pulling up the carpet and laying down something different on the floors. I have found some awesome sites that will help me design a room with the right color and aesthetically pleasing wood for my home. I was wondering what Cherry would look like in my bedroom, or what about Maple in my kitchen? Right now I have a laminate in the kitchen, it is okay..

What I am looking for is to be able to compare what different looks will look like in each room.  I love decorating and adore the look of a rich and warm room.  Our family room is right off the living room.  I finally got my fireplace.  I have been wanting a room with a fireplace since we first bought our house in 1999.  Now every  night you will find me in front of the fireplace reading a book.  I also want my house to be 'lived' in.  If the boys come home they don't have to be afraid to not take off there shoes.  Mind you, they do usually but if we are in and out while barbecuing which we do all summer long you don't have to take off your shoes to step into the kitchen.  Livable is so important.

The other thing to think about is the installation.  I am a Do It Yourself kinda gal so I see myself and or husband laying anything we decide to purchase.  All in all I am having fun thinking and planning what to lay down.  What does Black Friday have out there for sales?

  3. I have wood laminate, and while I like it ok, I'd really love to have hardwoods someday.

  4. I love wood floors, in fact when I have the money the entire house is switching over, they keep things looking so much cleaner and great for allergies.

  6. We have mostly big tile. I dig it more than carpet but wood would show dust here in Las Vegas a bit too much. Still looks gorgeous though

  9. We have a wood laminate in one bathroom and love it. I know it's not real but anything wood looks great. I've never had the pleasure of having wood floors. Maybe someday.
